Chelsea’s 2022/23 Premier League campaign was a terrible one, with the Blues finishing 12th in the table.
However, Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson is tipping them to do much better this season and has predicted where they will finish on The Footballer’s Football Podcast.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men are currently sitting in 10th but have shown some good form lately, picking up seven points from their last three games.
Next up for Chelsea is a west London derby against Brentford at Stamford Bridge.
Callum Wilson makes Chelsea prediction
Wilson cannot see the Blues finishing any lower than eighth this term.
Speaking on The Footballer’s Football Podcast, the England international said: “Chelsea will finish in the top half, 100%. They’ll be in the top eight teams. They’re too good to not.”
Eighth place not good enough for Chelsea
Chelsea finishing in eighth would technically be progress, but they really need to be doing better after all of the money that has been spent.
A Europa League spot has to be the bare minimum, but even that is quite a low target for a club of Chelsea’s stature.
The Blues have had a lot of injuries this season, which have really hurt them in the race for Champions League football. However, to drop points at home to Nottingham Forest and away at Bournemouth without scoring a single goal is disappointing.
Hopefully the damage is not done, but a few more bad results and you can easily see Chelsea having to write off this campaign and blaming everything on injuries.
Next term, though, there really cannot be any more excuses. Everyone should be fit again, while Pochettino would have had a year to implement his idea of football.
We are not at that point yet, however. It is still very early in the season, so Chelsea still have more than enough time to climb the Premier League table and finish in the top four or top six.
