Andrey Santos is making a really positive impression at Chelsea during pre-season.

That is according to well-respected journalist Simon Phillips.

Phillips has shared via a podcast on his Substack that Andrey Santos, 19, is grabbing everyone’s attention this summer.

He’s reported that the Brazilian midfielder stands out as the hardest worker in training, putting his maximum into every single drill.

It’s exactly the type of thing we want to hear about a new face joining the club!

Santos, who actually signed for Chelsea in January for £18million (Daily Mail), has been trying to impress Mauricio Pochettino after joining up with the senior squad for the first time this summer.

The Brazilian youngster is working with the group during their pre-season tour of the United States, and he’s impressed with two positive performances against Wrexham and Brighton so far.

Journalist Simon Phillips has detailed what he’s heard about the 19-year-old midfielder in training, too.

He told his Substack: “Andrey Santos is really impressing. Pochettino really likes him. In training he’s been excellent. I’ve heard that he puts in 110 per cent in every single drill, even if it’s just jogging. He’s the one putting the effort in. He’s eager, he’s got a great attitude, and he always has a smile on his face. He really loves being at Chelsea and really wants to stay.”

Santos is an all-action central midfielder looking very comfortable in the Chelsea side, albeit we’ve got to take it with a pinch of salt because it’s still pre-season games he’s playing in.

He certainly looks a very mature player at the age of 19 and he’s got one senior Brazil cap, but there’s still the worry h’s never experienced European football before.

It feels like midfield positions are up for grabs right now at Chelsea. We are hopeful he’s doing enough to convince Pochettino to include him in the senior group for the upcoming 2023/24 season, where he could provide fantastic cover and competition in the centre of the park.
