As the summer transfer window approaches its final week before it slams shut, a number of Chelsea players will be unsure about what the future holds for them.

Enzo Maresca was forced to make some very tough decisions when it came to who would be involved in the matchday squad for the first game of the season against Manchester City.

One very notable omission was Raheem Sterling, who made his discontent at the situation clear by releasing a statement through his camp.

Sterling now looks as if he is ready to leave the club, with it now being a mission to find a new suitor in the next eight days.

Another player who was nowhere to be seen at Stamford Bridge for the first game of the season was Carney Chukwuemeka, with him playing very little part in pre-season too.

Carney Chukwuemeka in Chelsea training

The midfielder has found minutes difficult to come by since his £20m move from Aston Villa, with injuries playing a big part in that.

He is now being linked with a move away from the club, with a loan move a real possibility at this stage.

However, journalist Nizaar Kinsella has claimed Chukwuemeka was involved with the first team in training yesterday ahead of their Conference League tie with Servette.

He said: “Casadei is back with Chelsea’s first team squad ahead of the Conference League. Chukwuemeka also involved.”

Lesley Ugochukwu loaned to Southampton

It looks as if a role in the first team picture in midfield may have cropped up for a younger player after Lesley Ugochukwu’s loan move away to Southampton was announced.

It may be between the two to compete for it, with one or maybe both still with a chance of being sold this summer.

Both will be hoping for the opportunity to feature tonight against Servette, with Chelsea seen as heavy favourites to progress in the tie.
