Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka will now not play for the club again this season after being called up for the U20 World Cup.

A tweet from the official England account confirmed the youngster, as well as Teddy Sharman-Lowe, Bashir Humphreys and Harvey Vale as the Blue representatives for the side ready to compete in Argentina later this month.

Minutes on the pitch have been tough to come by for Chukwuemeka this season, despite coming in with a lot of fanfare in the summer.

The £20m deal caught a lot of people by surprise, however the promise the midfielder has shown in the past for both England and Aston Villa suggested it was a shrewd piece of business.

Opportunities have been at a premium recently, especially since the appointment of Frank Lampard on a temporary basis.

Despite reports claiming that the Englishman has been very impressed with the youngster in training, he has yet to see the pitch during his tenure in charge.

The decision has been questioned by some due to a number of factors. The remaining games this season have very little impact on anything based on their already dire campaign.

The poor results have also suggested that a change in personnel could at least begin to get some supporters on board.

Noni Madueke’s last two games have proven that this is possible, with impressive performances seemingly putting him in Lampard’s plans for the rest of the season.

Chukwuemeka however will not be present for any of those games, as he prepares to try and gain more glory on the international stage.

With the competition just nine days away, his club season is now sure to be over, and will go down as underwhelming in terms of his development.
