Mason Mount has been spotted in England’s behind the scenes YouTube video almost taking out Gareth Southgate in a training drill.

The Chelsea midfielder was almost certainly looking to make an impact after being dropped from the last team that secured their status as Group B winners.

Southgate looked to refresh his side, particularly in attack, following an uninspiring draw against a Christian Pulisic inspired United States side.

However, things were far more convincing against Wales, as a superb second half saw them run out 3-0 winners.

The manager now faces a huge headache over whether to look back to some of the players who were present in the 6-2 destruction of Iran.

This includes Mount, but also his Chelsea teammate Raheem Sterling, who found the net in the tournament opener.

The 23-year-old could probably think of a better way of impressing the manager than injuring him, however the dedication will hopefully score him some bonus points.

Being dropped could actually see Mount return to his best, after what was certainly a difficult showing in his last match against USA.

With him known for his pressing and starting attacks from the front, being rested and at 100% will see him bring his best when his country needs him most.

England are poised for a knockout game against Senegal. Arguably their two most important players both play their club football at Stamford Bridge.

Kalidou Koulibaly was immense in their final group game against Ecuador, scoring the winning goal that sent them through.

Meanwhile, Edouard Mendy has been beginning to rebuild his tournament after a poor showing in their first game against Netherlands.

With Mount making it clear before the tournament started how important playing for England was to him, he will be hoping he has done enough in training to return to the starting side.
