Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino could have one player who has been injured available again soon.

Robert Sanchez, who Chelsea signed from Brighton & Hove Albion for £25m (BBC Sport) last summer, has not featured for the Blues since their 2-0 loss against Everton last month.

However, Chelsea have now shared a picture of the goalkeeper doing some individual work on the grass on social media.

There is no guarantee that Sanchez is going to walk straight into the Chelsea team when he is back, though.

Djordje Petrovic has come into Pochettino‘s side in Sanchez’s absence and has not disappointed.

Mauricio Pochettino should stick with Djordje Petrovic

It would not be fair for Pochettino to drop Petrovic as soon as Sanchez is fit again.

Sanchez quickly became Chelsea’s No.1 following Kepa Arrizabalaga’s loan move to Real Madrid, but as mentioned earlier, Petrovic has been in fine form while covering for his team-mate.

The Blues have actually won their last three Premier League games with Petrovic in the side, while the Serbian had a brilliant game in the 0-0 draw with Aston Villa in the FA Cup last Friday.

Petrovic made some important saves during the match and Pochettino described him as “amazing” in his press conference afterwards.

If Sanchez wants his spot between the posts back, then he is going to have to earn it.

It is a good problem to have, as the goalkeeper position was once a major issue for Chelsea.

Back in the 2021/22 season, Edouard Mendy started making quite a few mistakes before he was eventually sold to Al-Ahli last summer, while Kepa clearly wanted out after deciding to join Real Madrid.

Hopefully the competition between Petrovic and Sanchez can help to raise their levels at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea benefit as a result of it.
