Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy is starting to look like one that got away for Chelsea.

Chelsea were interested in signing Serhou Guirassy back in 2020 when the 27-year-old was still at Amiens, but he turned them down and ended up joining Rennes instead.

“He refused to go to Chelsea during the last window,” Amiens sporting director John Williams told Le Parisien. “Serhou made a sporting choice when he could earn more money with the London team. He wanted to continue in a club where he was sure to have some playing time and not relive an experience like the one in Koln where he was a substitute.”

Guirassy is now at Stuttgart, where he is currently on fire.

This season, the Guinea international has registered 10 goals in just five Bundesliga appearances. It means he is currently scoring at a higher rate than the likes of Erling Haaland and Harry Kane, with the former managing eight in six and the latter seven in five.

One that got away

If Guirassy keeps this up, then of course the Stuttgart star is going to start to feel like a real missed opportunity for Chelsea.

However, the rate that he is scoring at does not seem sustainable, while the Blues will not be too bothered about their failure to land him if they end up signing someone like Ivan Toney who comes in and delivers.

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea are ready to go head-to-head with London rivals Arsenal in January for the Brentford man’s signature.

With Guirassy having scored more goals than Mauricio Pochettino’s side have managed this season, they could really do with a striker like that right now. But what’s done is done.

Chelsea moved on after their failure to sign Guirassy and will continue to do so as they target other centre-forwards, such as Toney.
