£50m player now shares how it felt to be booed by Chelsea fans last week

Ben Chilwell has now spoken about how it felt to be booed by Chelsea fans after the 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge last Saturday.

The home supporters made their frustration loud and clear after the Blues recorded their second loss of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign after just four games.

So, how did the booing from Chelsea fans make Ben Chilwell feel? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Chelsea No.21 has responded brilliantly to boos from his own supporters.

Chilwell told the Evening Standard: “I understand that fans expect and want us to win week in, week out. It is what they are used to and have always had. It is completely understandable.”

When asked if he had a message for the supporters, the £50m man simply said: “Patience”.

To be fair to Chilwell and his Chelsea teammates, progress is evident – fans have surely seen enough in the opening four games to afford the Blues some patience.

Mauricio Pochettino is still tinkering to find his strongest starting XI, which has led to some strange moves, such as his decision to use Chilwell as a left-winger and Levi Colwill effectively at left-back.

Nevertheless, there are obvious signs of improvement under the Argentine.

In truth, had some very fine margins gone the other way, Chelsea could have even picked up three points against both Liverpool and West Ham.

For example, Enzo Fernandez missing his penalty at 1-1 against the Hammers really swung the game in their favour, while Chilwell came within inches of seeing his goal stand against Liverpool, which would have put Chelsea 2-1 up.
