‘8/10’… 20-year-old Chelsea loanee dazzles on Boxing Day as his side beat the league leaders

Chelsea youngster Harvey Vale dazzled for Bristol Rovers during a huge win for them over Portsmouth yesterday.

Harvey Vale, who’s just 20, was loaned out by Chelsea to League One side Bristol Rovers this season.

The England Under-20 international is an extremely versatile player, capable of playing as a left-back, left wing-back or winger.

It’s certainly turning out to be a successful season-long loan for him. He’s played 25 games so far this season across all competitions, scoring two goals and making three assists.

Bristol Rovers secured an eye-catching 2-1 home win over Portsmouth on Boxing Day. It was just the second time this season that the League One leaders suffered a defeat.

Local media raved about the individual performance from Chelsea’s loanee versus Portsmouth following his match-winning assist.

Bristol Post wrote in their player ratings: “Harvey Vale – 8/10. One of his best performances in a Bristol Rovers shirt which is some statement. The youngster seemed to win everything down the left flank and put in some delightful crosses too and ended up providing the assist for [Luke] Thomas’ late, late winner.”

We’re delighted to hear that Vale is putting in stellar performances and playing regularly in the Bristol Rovers XI.

Speaking via Bristol Rovers’ YouTube channel a couple of months ago, Joey Barton predicted that Vale has a “fantastic” career ahead of him.

He’s already played five first-team games in Chelsea colours, but it’s so important that he’s learning with regular senior minutes at this moment in time.

Vale’s one of the players out on loan that Chelsea should be most excited about moving into 2024. Let’s wait and see who can catapult themselves into the main Blues group at Stamford Bridge in the near future.
