Chelsea legend and former board member Petr Cech has now opened up on why he left the club as a Technical and Performance Advisor.

He told Sky Sports that he was worried that he may not be in the right position when the new ownership took over just under two years ago.

Todd Boehly has brought widespread change to Chelsea since taking over, with those changes being both on and off the pitch.

The first team is unrecognizable from the one who competed just seasons ago, with the likes of Mason Mount unexpectedly sold.

Off the pitch too, there has been a number of changes of personnel, and this did not stop at club legends who were there.

Cech has now shared the backstory of him leaving his role at the club.

He said: “I miss my work, but I don’t have regrets, because I believe that when you make such a significant change, I was too worried I would always be comparing to what has happened to what may happen in the future.

“I believe that you should always work in the best possible way, and the people who run the club should have people who think the same way.

“I had a gut feeling that I might not be in the right position, so I just thought it was the best for everybody, and then I left. Of course, there is a lot of discussion about it, and if I was told to leave. Actually, it was the opposite. I resigned on my own terms.

“Although I always had really respectful discussions with Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, in the end I told them it would be the best that you have a person to continue, as I decided that’s not going to be me.”

Many Chelsea fans have been critical of the American since he took over, however it can’t be said that he has not invested heavily into the playing squad since arriving.
