Wesley Sneijder was firmly in the corner of Chelsea when delivering his verdict for the Champions League final to the Daily Mail.

Thomas Tuchel will take on Pep Guardiola in the crowing European event this Saturday, with retribution on the line for both.

Chelsea have defeated City twice already this season; Guardiola will be determined to stop it from happening for a third time.

Tuchel meanwhile may want to avenge last year’s finale loss whilst he was in charge of Paris Saint-Germain.

Wesley predicts Chelsea win

Sneijder, a former winner of the competition and pupil of Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan, backed the dark blues to pull through against the Premier League winners.

“For me Chelsea wins”, said the decorated Dutchman.

“They are a strong team with Tuchel and they have a great coach: they have already beaten Manchester City and for me they are favourites.

“I have seen Chelsea play many times and have pride and strength. I am happy that these two teams are on top of Europe right now.”

Sneijder has a strong affiliation with Chelsea because of his Mourinho link.

The pair worked together at Inter for two years, securing everything available in Italy and the top title in Europe.

With Mourinho back in Serie A now ruling over Roma, it is the turn of Tuchel to try and do something his predecessor never managed at Chelsea: win the Champions League.

Entering into the weekend’s contest, the Blues might have a slight psychological edge over City.

They are 2-1 up from matches against the Manchester club this campaign, with both of their wins arriving in the space of a month.

However, Guardiola’s men are in fine form. They have tasted defeat just twice since they lost to Chelsea on the 17th of April.

It’s set to be an intriguing tactical battle of style, scrupulous planning, and a shedload of superstars.
