‘A top player’: Robert Sanchez hails Chelsea 20-year-old in his first interview as a Blues player

Robert Sanchez has immediately heaped praise on Levi Colwill after the pair were reunited at Chelsea this weekend.

The Blues confirmed on Saturday morning that they’ve completed the signing of Robert Sanchez, 25, on a seven-year deal.

Sanchez, who kept 29 clean sheets in 90 Brighton appearances, is a talented goalkeeper that has now arrived at Stamford Bridge to compete for the number one position.

The Spanish shot-stopper already knows a few stars inside the dressing room at his new club, including 20-year-old Levi Colwill. Chelsea’s young defender spent a successful time last season on loan at the Amex Stadium.

Speaking in his first interview since becoming a Chelsea player, Sanchez has raved about the ability of centre-half Colwill.

He’ll surely hope that the pair are soon together starting in the same Blues line-up.

“Last year I was with Levi. I’ve got a really good friendship now with him and I think the spell at Brighton was really good for him. It got him ready for the challenge he has now,” Sanchez told the club’s official website.

“We always communicate well. We’re good friends outside the pitch so you’re going to play good on the pitch with them as well. He’s a top player.”

Chelsea have paid Brighton £25million (Sky Sports) for Sanchez’s signature, which could look like a bargain further down the line if he takes the number one position off Kepa Arrizabalaga.

He’s coming into a Blues dressing room that is stacked with so much young talent, so he’ll remarkably be one of the more experienced heads.

It’s proven over time that the great teams are built from the back, which is why there’s so much intrigue on how Mauricio Pochettino will line up.

We expect a close-knit battle between Sanchez and Kepa in-between the sticks. Meanwhile, Colwill is one of several quality centre-halves on the club’s books.
