Hello and welcome to a new weekly article here on the Chelsea Chronicle!
Each week, we’ll be hearing from the Sheavyn family – season ticket holders for over 15 years at Stamford Bridge – on all things Chelsea.
To start us off, we hear from Andrew Sheavyn on Chelsea’s transfer dealings and his opinion on how the Conte/Sarri transition was handled.
On the Conte/Sarri transition
“The sacking of Conte should no doubt have been better managed.
“It looked disrespectful to Conte from the outside looking in. He gave so much to the club and supporters in his first season, it would’ve been nice to have shown some class with his sacking.
“A consequence of the above, the late arrival of Maurizio Sarri was far from ideal, particularly as Sarri wants to play a completely different style/formation to that of his predecessor.
“Very satisfied with the appointment however, intrigued to see the style of football.”
On Jorginho
“There is no bigger compliment to a player than Guardiola wanting to sign them.
“We’ve been lacking a deep, ball playing midfielder who is eager to get on the ball at all times, who can also run (Fabregas can’t).”
On Kovacic
“I think he offers real balance to the midfield three alongside Kante and Jorginho.
“He seems to tick all the boxes for a modern day premier league midfielder.
“Although it would be good to see him add goals to his game as goals are unlikely to come from Jorginho or Kante.
“Some may say that we are developing a Madrid player whilst we punish one of our own (Ruben Loftus-Cheek) which could be a fair argument, however the best teams need competition and quality.”
On Hazard and Willian staying
“I couldn’t be happier about Hazard staying (although the Spanish window is still open!). He is an exceptional talent, the best in the league and impossible to replace.
“With regard to Willian, there are still question marks about his productivity. Although exceptional in some games, you always feel like there is more to give.
“I personally think we should have taken the money from Barcelona and re-invested or trusted a younger player.
“Fans from other clubs who only watch him on MOTD would think that’s crazy, but if you watched him every week, you would understand!”
Any other business?
“I would have liked to have seen one more player, particularly a centre forward as I don’t think anyone believes Olivier Giroud is the answer for a Sarri style team and I worry about where our goals are going to come from if not from Morata.”
