Asmir Begovic has described reported Chelsea target Kalidou Koulibaly as an “absolute machinec” when discussing the Napoli star’s quality.

Koulibaly, 30, is a supremely talented player that’s been a talisman in the Napoli defence since joining back in 2014.

The powerhouse defender has been linked with transfers away from Naples over the years, but has continued dominating in Serie A football.

It’s been claimed this summer that Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea like the idea of signing Koulibaly.

The Blues are reportedly in the hunt to sign him but face competitors Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Juventus. He’ll cost €40million (£34m) to sign this summer amid a contract dispute with Napoli about a new deal.

Begovic, who’s an ex-Chelsea goalkeeper and had a brief stint in Italy at AC Milan, is a massive admirer of Koulibaly.

“I couldn’t rate Koulibaly higher. ,” Begovic said.

“He’s an animal. He’s right up there for me… What a player. He’s an absolute machine.

“There’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to get a high level five years of service [if you sign him].”

It’s obvious that signing at least one centre-half is a priority for Chelsea this summer, especially since Andreas Christensen’s exit was confirmed on Friday. He’s now followed another senior defender in Antonio Rudiger out of the door.

Let’s hope the club don’t leave it too long to get reinforcements in such a key area of the pitch.
