Journalist Seb Ecrivain has claimed that Chelsea are about to miss out on signing one defender during this January transfer window.

He has made 20 appearances in all competitions this season, with him predominantly featuring at centre-back.

He has also shown an ability to play in midfield too, and his versatility is another reason why big clubs are interested in a deal.

Chelsea were linked with his addition over the last summer, and reports that he could be on the move are again doing the rounds.

This times though, it has been claimed that United have the upper hand in attempts to sign him. Ecrivain has now claimed that negotiations are at an ‘advanced stage’ between the two parties.

He said: “Man Utd is not far from completing the acquisition of the talented Italian defender Scalvini by paying £44 million. Negotiations are at an advanced stage, with the club ready to fulfil the release clause of the 20-year-old nugget.”

Chelsea have been strongly linked with the addition of another centre-back already this month, as the transfer window opens yet again.

Jean-Clair Todibo has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge already, after he has already been a target of a number of Premier League clubs.

Chelsea would do well to remember some of the stars they have already at the club in that position, and make sure they don’t look to anger them by making even more signings.

One of these is Levi Colwill, who has been finding opportunities to play at the heart of defence difficult to come by this season as it is.
