The Blues are without a win in their last two, and were beaten 2-1 at Anfield despite impressing against the league leaders.
Romeo Lavia impressed on his return to the side, with it unclear at this stage if he will keep Enzo Fernandez out of the starting side.
The boss also faces a decision about who starts between the sticks. Filip Jorgensen staked his claim with an impressive performance in Europe.
There are certainly going to be changes to the starting side from those who lined up last night, with fatigue likely to play a part for those who were involved.
Alan Shearer predicts Chelsea and Newcastle to draw
Alan Shearer believes Newcastle have the ability to cause Chelsea some problems. He has predicted to Metro that the game will be a draw.
He said: “Newcastle can get something at Stamford Bridge with another week on the training ground and no midweek game.
“Eddie Howe will have plenty of time to work on their finishing and final ball this week and if they can improve on that, with the confidence of Anthony Gordon signing a new contract, they can go to Chelsea and get a point which will hopefully kick-start their season.
“Chelsea impressed me at Liverpool and are showing signs of progress, so I am expecting this to be a tight game on Sunday. Draw.”
Manager of the month curse at Chelsea?
After picking up the award of manager of the month for September, Enzo Maresca is yet to see his side win in the Premier League in October.
The ambition will no doubt be to finish in the top four again this season. Gary Neville has tipped them to qualify for the Champions League despite the loss against Liverpool.
They will need to sort out their home form is this is the case. The Blues have won just once at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League this season.
