Ally McCoist has suggested that Newcastle United should sign Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher because he would be a great fit at St James’ Park.

Gallagher, who earns £50,000-a-week, is currently a first-team player trying to break into Chelsea’s best line-up.

The 22-year-old Blues midfielder gets regular minutes without starting every game, but he’s yet to recapture the kind of form he showed during a fantastic loan spell at Crystal Palace last season.

It’s why there’s no real surprise he’s been linked with a potential move away from Stamford Bridge.

Fabrizio Romano reports (CaughtOffside) that Chelsea will make a decision on Gallagher’s future during the next few days amid interest from both Newcastle and Crystal Palace.

Ally McCoist suggests Conor Gallagher to Newcastle

TalkSPORT pundit Ally McCoist has reacted positively to transfer rumours that Newcastle could be after Gallagher.

He’s pretty certain that the England international could be a hit on Tyneside.

“Conor Gallagher’s the kind of player I think that Newcastle would be going for. Young, hungry, that would make a signing,” McCoist told talkSPORT.

“The way he plays the game, the Newcastle fans would take to him. He’s high energy, great effort. Perfect.”

If Gallagher can’t nail down a spot in the Chelsea XI this season, there’s nothing to say he could do any different for a Newcastle team sat third in the Premier League table right now.

There’s a lot to love about the central midfielder’s game with his all-action approach that consists of so much energy.

However, it feels like Chelsea boss Graham Potter is still trying to work out the best way to use him.

Jason Cundy hailed the academy graduate’s latest display in the 1-0 win over Palace on Sunday, but he needs to show more consistent performances to win over the entire fanbase.
