Liverpool’s Andy Robertson has described Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour as a “special talent” ahead of Euro 2020.
Both Premier League stars are included in Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad for Euro 2020, with the Liverpool defender his nation’s captain. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s midfielder has received a first senior international call-up in time for a major competition.
Gilmour, 19, is an exciting Chelsea youngster who’s a part of the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge.
After missing the opening couple of months of the 2020/21 season with a knee injury, he’s been with the senior group waiting patiently for minutes.
The central midfielder has played a few times now under Blues manager Thomas Tuchel, including in a 2-1 Premier League win against upcoming Champions League final opponents Manchester City.
He’s an all-action central midfielder with aggression, stamina and skill. His real standout feature is the composure and maturity he shows on the ball for a teenager.
Robertson has raved about the uncapped Scotland international, who he’s predicting will be a big player for his country.
“He’s a confident lad. He’s an unbelievable footballer,” Robertson said.
“I played in his first [Chelsea] start against Liverpool in the FA Cup. He got man of the match, and we got beat which wasn’t great.
“I know a couple of the Chelsea boys and what they say is his attitude is spot on. In terms of training, he puts everything into training. When he gets his chance he never really disappoints. I think you see that from the age he’s at, you can see the Chelsea manager trusts him in big games.
“Billy is a special talent, it’s just about using that talent and keeping his attitude, keeping level-headed… He will have a future. He’s already started very well, and he will have a huge career in the game. I’m excited to see him grow, and I’m sure he’ll be in a Scotland jersey for many years to come.”

Will Billy Gilmour shine at Euro 2020?
For someone who’s played just 22 first-team games in his club career, Gilmour should be overjoyed he’s part of the Scotland squad for the Euros.
The fact he’s training every single day with top-class talents at Stamford Bridge is helping his development. There is certainly no shame being behind N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic in the pecking order.
He’s looked a class act whenever called upon, so Scotland boss Steve Clarke should look to play him in one of the two warm up games before the Euros starts.
Gilmour could be the ace up the manager’s sleeve that could light up Scotland’s Euro campaign.
