Former defender Anton Ferdinand has a warning for Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill.

Levi Colwill lost his cool during a moment in Chelsea’s 4-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday and went for Pape Matar Sarr.

It resulted in the young defender picking up a yellow card and Mauricio Pochettino having to take him off at half-time and Ferdinand, speaking on FIVE, thinks he has now put a target on his head.

Pochettino will be hoping for a much cooler Colwill when Chelsea take on Manchester City on Sunday.

Levi Colwill could become a target

Ferdinand now fears other players will try to wind up Colwill after seeing how easily he lost his temper with Sarr.

Discussing the incident on FIVE, the former West Ham United defender said: “Mark my words, players watching that will target him now, fact. ‘We can get at him, we can wind him up.’ That’s going to start happening, so he’s going to need to mature very, very quickly.”

Pape Matar Sarr incident a one-off?

Colwill has been really calm and collected this season. His yellow card against Tottenham was only his first of the campaign.

It was an extremely competitive derby, with the 20-year-old fully understanding the rivalry between Chelsea and Tottenham.

He lost his head in a mad game, which can happen to anyone. So perhaps that moment with Sarr was just a one-off and not something we will see too often in the future, even if opposition players do try and target him now.

Overall, Colwill is having a good season at Stamford Bridge. He is a regular starter under Pochettino and is performing in the left-back position.

According to WhoScored, the England international is winning 2.5 aerial duels per game, which is the highest average in Chelsea’s squad.

He deserves to be let off, then, for one counterproductive moment against Spurs that did not even prove costly in the end. Thanks to Cole Palmer’s equaliser and Nicolas Jackson’s hat-trick, Chelsea were able to win the game and take all three points back to west London.
