Antonio Rudiger responds to Didier Drogba after he nearly scores sensational goal last night
Romelu Lukaku’s amazing start since his return to Chelsea continued last night in the Champions League, but it was teammate Antonio Rudiger that arguably produced the moment of the game.
Lukaku scored the only goal of the match in Chelsea’s 1-0 home win against Russian opposition Zenit St Petersburg on Tuesday night. The centre-forward powered in a header low into the bottom corner as he showed why the Blues splashed out on his signature in the summer to sign him from Inter Milan.
It was a close affair where Thomas Tuchel’s side battled away to try get past the stubborn Zenit defence. However, an individual moment early in the second half really lifted the Stamford Bridge crowd.
Rudiger dribbled 70 yards up the pitch with a barnstorming run that had supporters off their seats. Unfortunately, the 28-year-old centre-back dragged his shot wide after making it to the edge of the opponents box.
The German defender is no stranger to stepping out on the ball, but this was something special from him to lift fans inside the ground. It was extremely reminiscent of a run Kurt Zouma produced in 2019.
Chelsea’s second half display was much stronger than the first as they found the winning goal and Rudiger’s individual moment was a catalyst to get the crowd involved.
Rudiger has replied to Chelsea icon Didier Drogba on Instagram after his reaction to the memorable dribble.
Elsewhere, another ex-Chelsea player was keen to praise a current Blues star. Shaun Wright-Phillips responded to goalscorer Lukaku on Instagram after his latest heroics.
