Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez continued his love affair with Argentina by impressing yet again for his country last night.
Enzo Fernandez, who’s just 22, is already etched into his nation’s history by playing an important role in winning last year’s World Cup in Qatar.
Now, the reigning champions are already going through the South American qualifying progress to try defend their crown in 2026.
Argentina recorded a 1-0 victory at home to Paraguay in a World Cup qualifier in the early hours of Friday, with Nicolas Otamendi scoring a 3rd minute winning goal.
Chelsea fans will be keen to hear Fernandez played 80 minutes for Argentina in the heart of midfield.

TyC Sports, who’s an Argentine national media, delivered an interesting verdict on Fernandez’s latest international performance.
TyC Sports wrote: “Enzo Fernandez (7/10) – In the absence of [Lionel] Messi it was almost a hitch. Reprimanded early on, he did not feel conditioned and had very high quality touches that added shine to the offensive game. He did not gravitate as much in the second half but his participation was constant.”
Elsewhere, English media also weighed in with a match rating for Chelsea’s central midfielder.
GOAL wrote: “Enzo Fernandez (7/10) – Did a little bit of everything for Argentina, proving once again why he fits so perfectly in this team as assembled.”

At the age of 22, there’s already so much responsibility on Fernandez’s young shoulders for both club and country.
We’ve seen him develop into such a consistent performer in the past year regardless of the stage.
Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard recently explained he views Fernandez’s best position as a No 8 midfielder when he’s got a licence to contribute in an attacking sense. He usually plays in a deeper and more disciplined role for World Cup champions Argentina, though.
