No one would have blamed Arne Slot if he felt confident about Liverpool beating Chelsea on Saturday.

Chelsea headed into their Premier League clash against Slot’s Liverpool with a host of players absent because of injury.

The likes of Cole Palmer, Liam Delap and Levi Colwill were all missing because of fitness issues, while Trevoh Chalobah was also unavailable after his red card last weekend.

In the end, though, Chelsea were able to beat Liverpool 2-1 and climb to sixth in the table.

Arne Slot highlights impact of Chelsea’s substitutes

After the match, Slot acknowledged that Chelsea were in a weakened state because of all of their injuries.

However, the Dutchman was also quick to point out that they still had a strong bench, which helped them to win the game.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, which was relayed by Liverpool’s official club website, Slot said: “You go here to Stamford Bridge with them having eight injuries, so you’re like, ‘This can be positive, then they probably don’t have the options from the bench’. But they did still have a few good options from the bench to impact the game.”

Estevao Willian proved to be the match-winner for Enzo Maresca‘s side after he came off the bench to score in the 95th minute.

Former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin was full of praise for Estevao after watching him at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, tipping him to become a “special” player. After the international break, Estevao and Chelsea take on Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Estevao Willian’s match-winning cameo in numbers

While it was his most important contribution of the afternoon, Estevao did more than score a tap-in against Liverpool.

The winger also created one big chance while managing to make a couple of defensive contributions, too. Chelsea supporters may not see a better cameo at Stamford Bridge this season.

When Chelsea travel to Forest after the next round of international fixtures, you would now expect Estevao to start that game.

Pedro Neto has not done badly in the right-wing position this season. But Estevao deserves to be rewarded for his heroics and is capable of hurting a Forest side who look extremely vulnerable at this moment in time.
