Alan Shearer thinks one Chelsea player has real arrogance in his game, but he’s described it as a positive rather than a negative.
There’s a feel-good factor around Chelsea right now after they hammered Wolverhampton Wanderers 6-2 at the weekend in the Premier League. The Blues certainly had several impressive individual performers from the Wolves victory, too.
Blues head coach Enzo Maresca must be delighted to get such a statement result under his belt so early into his reign.
Interestingly, journalist Simon Phillips reported via Substack that Maresca ranted at Chelsea’s players during half-time against Wolves. The teams were locked together at 2-2 after a frantic opening 45 minutes, but the visitors clearly listened to their team talk and dominated the second-half.

Alan Shearer raves about Cole Palmer
Premier League legend Alan Shearer has delivered a glowing assessment on Chelsea’s Cole Palmer after what he’s just seen from him. The 22-year-old playmaker was in sensational form versus Wolves, scoring one goal and creating three assists.
When discussing Palmer on The Rest Is Football, Shearer said: “Great player. Great talent. So cool. So arrogant in a great way. He’s a wonderful footballer. Nothing seems to faze him. The finish [against Wolves] was so nonchalant, as if he’s playing in the park with his pals, and that’s how he plays; it’s amazing.”
Cole Palmer should aim to smash one record from last season
Palmer’s debut year at Chelsea last season was truly outrageous, so eclipsing it is going to be very difficult. The attacker ended up with 25 goals and 15 assists in 45 Blues appearances across all competitions, which helped him win the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
However, if he plays in the No.10 position for this 2024/25 campaign, we’ve got confidence he can break at least one record.
The left-footer created 15 assists in his first season with Chelsea, but he’s got the star quality to go way past that figure this term.
He ended up with three assists in Sunday’s demolition of Wolves, setting up Noni Madueke for his hat-trick. The key is that he operated centrally and Chelsea’s attacks went through him, so starting him as a No.10 rather than as a right-winger feels essential.
Palmer has such a high football IQ and clear mind when it gets to the final third. Therefore, we’d expect him to rack up assists for fun when you see the teammates around him.
