Aymeric Laporte has issued his response after being left out of the PFA Team of the Year.

The Spanish international was not selected for the honour in favour of Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, despite Manchester City’s Premier League glory.

The 28-year-old played 33 times for Pep Guardiola in the league this season, as they withstood the charge from Liverpool at the top.

Rudiger, whose move to Real Madrid has since been confirmed, saw his performances at Stamford Bridge hand him a place partnering Virgil van Dijk in the team.

The information clearly bugged the French-born defender, who took to Twitter to share his disdain.

In the tweet, Laporte used a famous Jose Mourinho clip, with the Portuguese manager claiming he ‘preferred not to speak” while being interviewed.

Laporte provided four goals in the league this season, most notably a seeming-crucial equaliser in January against Southampton. This is in contrast to the Chelsea man’s three, although there’s no competition to the quality of the strike against Brentford at Stamford Bridge.

Despite finishing way off the pace at the top, Rudiger was included in the squad as Chelsea’s only inclusion in the team.

This meant star performers such as Mason Mount and Thiago Silva were not included despite enjoying stellar individual campaigns.

The German’s addition in the prestigious lineup is made all the more impressive, with it becoming more and more clear through the season that his future plans were unclear.

Reece James was one of many players who showed their love to the 29-year-old when the departure was confirmed, describing him as “strong like iron”

The right-back was nominated for his own award with the PFA, but he missed out on the young player of the year award to Phil Foden.
