Bayern Munich boss Flick comments on Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel

Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick has praised Chelsea’s “talented” squad and believes the Blues can go far in the Champions League under Thomas Tuchel.

When asked about the upcoming Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid, Tuchel told the reporters to ask him again after Chelsea’s visit to Southampton at the weekend (Hayters TV).

Tuchel made it clear where his focus lies at the moment.

But he also described Atletico as “one of the toughest teams to beat” as he highlighted their six-point lead in La Liga.

Interestingly, Bayern’s Flick who defeated Tuchel’s PSG in last season’s Champions League final believes that at Chelsea, the German has the squad to compete in Europe.

“Chelsea has great potential in terms of both quality and quantity,” the Bayern boss told France Football.

“It is still a young team, especially offensively, with a lot of talented players.

“This team can also go far in the Champions League this season.

“With Paris-Saint-Germain, Thomas has accumulated a lot of experience that will benefit him at Chelsea.

“He takes up this challenge with a lot of drive and generosity.”

It is perhaps way too soon for Chelsea to talk about competing in the Champions League.

Despite the obvious quality in their squad, they still lack the experience in the competition, aside from a few summer signings.

But it is certainly not impossible for Chelsea to go all the way through.

Nobody expected Roberto Di Matteo to lead the Blues to their first ever Champions League glory in 2012 after just two months following his appointment as an interim manager.

Although, it must be said that the Italian also inherited arguably the best Chelsea squad he could have hoped for with big characters such as John Terry, Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, and Petr Cech leading the team.
