Pat Nevin purred over the performance of Lewis Hall for Chelsea in the 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

Reporting live for the BBC, Nevin noted the noticeable contribution of the teenager towards the contest in the capital.

Hall started his second successive Premier League game in a row at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

The defender was part of the XI that failed in the previous London derby away to Fulham.

He was a guilty party in the first goal Chelsea conceded at Craven Cottage, with confidence overriding sensibility.

But the academy graduate made sure not to repeat the mistakes in the face of Patrick Vieira’s Palace.

His exhibition was void of any meaningful errors, one that was once again assured in a pressurised situation.

Kalidou Koulibaly replaced his young teammate with 12 minutes of normal time remaining, a change that was met with rapturous applause from the home fans.

“Hall is getting a standing ovation. Chelsea fans love the young players who come through,” remarked Nevin.

“He’s actually been exceptional today. Hall and Reece James together could be sorted out for a decade, that whole area.”

Graham Potter would surely love one day to pick both Hall and James together.

Until the latter returns to full fitness, this dream must remain a fantasy rather than reality.

Potter does have a new wave of fresh faces to call-upon in the absence of his injured players, however.

January recruit Benoit Badiashile made his debut against Palace, whilst the latest addition Mykhailo Mudryk was in the stands along with Joao Felix.

David Datro Fofana is still awaiting his first start since moving from Molde earlier this month.

And the full returns of James, Ben Chilwell, N’Golo Kante and Wesley Fofana will feel like new signings.
