‘Best game in a Chelsea shirt’… Micah Richards was so impressed with 22-year-old’s performance vs Man City

Chelsea signed Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal last summer to find the back of the net for them.

He was unable to do that in Chelsea‘s 1-1 draw with Manchester City over the weekend, with Raheem Sterling grabbing the Blues’ only goal of the game.

However, Micah Richards was still impressed with Nicolas Jackson‘s performance. In fact, the former City defender said it was his “best game” since arriving at Stamford Bridge on The Rest Is Football podcast.

While the striker was unable to score, it was his pass that led to Sterling’s goal, though the 29-year-old still had a bit of work to do before putting the ball in the back of the net.

Sterling got on the inside of Kyle Walker nicely before curling the ball past Ederson.

Nicolas Jackson’s best game for Chelsea

Richards thinks what everyone saw from Jackson on Sunday was him at his absolute best.

On the 22-year-old Senegal international, the pundit said: “On transition, Chelsea played brilliantly. They let Man City have the ball, soaked up the pressure and it was like one or two passes.

“Jackson went on the left and then went up front; he had the best game in a Chelsea shirt. Raheem Sterling runs in behind and Man City just couldn’t deal with. If Chelsea were a bit more clinical they could have scored two or three goals.”

Chelsea’s attacked clicked against Manchester City

Jackson, Sterling and Cole Palmer all played well in the 1-1 draw at the Etihad.

That attack functioned well together and there was some really good combination play on display on the day.

Jackson and Palmer linked up exceptionally just before Sterling’s goal, for example, playing a nice one-two with each other.

The team’s defenders were also good, limiting the European champions to just one goal, and Steve Nicol has now called for Mauricio Pochettino not to break up the central defensive partnership of Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill.

If both Chelsea’s attack and defence can maintain the standard that they showed at the Etihad on Sunday against Liverpool, there is no reason why they cannot win the Carabao Cup.
