Michael Essien has just made a prediction about Chelsea that the club’s supporters should take note of.
Chelsea have had so many memorable stars in the 21st century during a trophy-laden spell, including Ghana icon Michael Essien.
The retired 41-year-old midfielder spent the bulk of his playing career at Stamford Bridge, making 256 appearances in total. He won eight trophies as a Blues player, including one Champions League and two Premier Leagues.
There’s no doubt that Chelsea’s current midfield could do with Essien’s steel, power and quality.
In fairness, we’re starting to see the best of 22-year-old midfielder Moises Caicedo in west London. Speaking recently via BBC Sport, Troy Deeney said Caicedo is now delivering in Chelsea colours.

Michael Essien prediction on Chelsea
According to Blues legend Essien, Chelsea currently need time and patience to return to the top. He’s predicting that they will eventually get there, though.
“I still follow them [Chelsea] and always watch the games whenever I can. I think it will take time and a lot of patience, but I’m sure they will get there,” Essien told Joy Sports.
In fairness, the Chelsea owners have invested very heavily in young players for the future, so things will take time despite all the spending.
Building the Chelsea midfield
If the Blues want to get back to winning trophies again, they simply need to be strong and consistent in the centre of the park.
There was a time when Chelsea were fortunate to have top-class central midfielders such as Essien, Frank Lampard, Michael Ballack and John Obi Mikel in the same squad. Can the current batch of youngsters at the Bridge live up to them?
We really like the options of Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia in Chelsea’s current set-up. There’s also exciting talents such as Andrey Santos and Lesley Ugochukwu currently out on loan, too.
For head coach Enzo Maresca, the rest of the team will fall into place if he’s got that solid core in the midfield.
