‘Bottom line’: Tuchel shares what he was told by Cech in private meeting about possible takeover of Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel has revealed part of the message delivered to him by Petr Cech in a meeting concerning the future of Chelsea.

Speaking in his press conference earlier today, Tuchel told reporters that he had basically been instructed by Cech to concentrate on matters he can directly affect.

All up in the air thanks to Abramovich

Whilst the German manager can influence many things around the club, there is little for him to do about the overall landscape of the organisation.

That comes down to Roman Abramovich and the person he decides to select as the heir to his throne.

Abramovich confirmed on Wednesday that he had put Chelsea up for sale, with bids reportedly being prepared from several wealthy businessmen.

This has left an extremely grey cloud of insecurity over Stamford Bridge and potentially the livelihoods of those keeping it together.

Will the new owners shake the organisation from top to bottom, leaving some people jobless?

Are they driven by financial gain or footballing spirit?

Similar concerns are being raised about the scenario where Abramovich is unable to sell Chelsea due to being sanctioned by the government.

Could staff go unpaid? Will there be any money to make transfers this summer?

Supporters and the media alike continue to try and deconstruct all the hypotheticals and theories swirling around at the moment.

Tuchel tries to remain grounded

Tuchel too must be formulating his own assumptions, even if he doesn’t want to voice them.

In public, he has been very clear about being separated from the process, with his attention solely on building a winning team.  

But behind closed doors, the manager did admit to speaking with certain members of the board about the uncertainties shrouding the Blues.

“No insurances because how could he? How could anybody? We cannot predict the future, nobody can,” said Tuchel about Cech’s stance going forward.

“Maybe it was just more the bottom line that we can allow ourselves to keep on going and do what we did over the last days, focus on sports.

“We are employees and are right now still very privileged. That was more or less the message.”

For all Tuchel and Cech know, they could both be out the door if Abramovich’s possible replacement refurbishes Chelsea.

Football is a mysterious landscape that’s impossible to predict.

All the boys in blue can do is fight on the pitch, and hopefully the battle will be won off it.
