Chelsea face Brentford this weekend in a fascinating London derby at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea host Brentford on Sunday in the Premier League, with the game taking place at the unusual kick-off time of 7pm.

The Blues go into the weekend sitting second in the league table, winning their previous four consecutive top-flight matches. Meanwhile, Brentford sit ninth in the division standings as they enjoy their own impressive campaign.

Paul Merson tips Chelsea to beat Brentford in Sunday’s showdown. However, it’s worth noting that the Bees have won on their three previous trips to Stamford Bridge in the last three seasons.

Thomas Frank super impressed by Chelsea

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has been extremely complimentary of his side’s upcoming opponents. In fact, he made the big claim that Chelsea may be the best side in the Premier League right now based on form, even better than leaders Liverpool.

“I expect an interesting game with two good teams,” Frank said via Brentford’s official website.

“They are maybe the best team in the Premier League right now. They are maybe even more in-form than Liverpool, even though they are top of the league.

“They are playing incredible football and are well-coached. [Enzo] Maresca has done a top job so far with his coaching staff and they look extremely dangerous.

“They have so many threats going forward and have top-quality players all over the pitch.

“I expect an unbelievably difficult game. They are massive favourites but, of course, we believe that we can compete against anyone and we believe we can win.”

This young and free-scoring Chelsea side continues to earn plaudits from many areas this season.

Interestingly, Liverpool boss Arne Slot praised Chelsea by naming them as his side’s toughest opponents so far this campaign.

The Blues currently sit four points behind leaders Liverpool, who’ve played a game less as well, so let’s see if they can narrow that gap.

Premier League clubs think Cole Palmer is the reason Chelsea are in the title race, and don’t rule him out from producing something special against Brentford after a rest in midweek.

Brentford so different away from home

Chelsea play Brentford at home on Sunday, which may be a good thing for them.

So far this season, Frank’s side have been outstanding at the Gtech Community Stadium. However, they’ve found it a lot more difficult on the road.

Here is a look at Brentford’s record home versus away in the Premier League during the 2024/25 campaign:

Brentford’s record at Stamford Bridge may give them some optimism for the very short trip to Chelsea, but their away form has been a huge problem in the last few months.
