‘Brilliant’: BBC pundit raves about £105k-a-week Chelsea star that just wasn’t losing the ball in Middlesbrough win

Jermaine Jenas awarded Chelsea’s Thiago Silva his man of the match in Saturday’s FA Cup success.

Chelsea, who had a restricted number of away supporters in the crowd, put in a professional performance to beat Championship opposition Middlesbrough 2-0 at the Riverside Stadium.

Thomas Tuchel’s Blues netted twice in the first half to book their spot in the FA Cup semi-final, with the draw for the final four taking place tomorrow (Sunday).

Romelu Lukaku, along with teammate Hakim Ziyech, were both on the scoresheet. Mason Mount was on hand to assist both goals, too.

BBC pundit Jenas singled out Chelsea’s defender Silva for yet another masterclass performance.

Aged 37, he was dominant in the heart of defence alongside teammate Antonio Rudiger.

“Brilliant performance. I’ve been racking my brain trying to find a time where he’s given the ball away and can’t find one. It was a top performance from him. He’s run that game defensively, so he’s my man of the match,” Jenas told BBC One (7:05pm, 19 March).

Incidentally, Silva’s 93 per cent (Who Scored) pass success against Boro backs up Jenas’s claim about him barely losing the ball.

Chelsea fans let’s build a time machine

Surely, some Blues supporter out there can help me build a time machine.

Silva, once again, was a rock in the heart of the Chelsea backline at the weekend.

He reads the game quicker than anybody else on the pitch, so you’ll never find the Brazilian out of position.

The £105,000-a-week centre-half doesn’t look like he’s slowing down anytime soon, but it’s just a fact that he turns 38 later this year.
