Mount delivered the Champions League goods last night just after the half-an-hour mark to give some breathing room between the Blues and their opponents.
His goal was taken fantastically, picking up a precise Jorginho pass on the turn and smashing a low drive past the Porto goalkeeper.
This was his first European goal on his 15th appearance in the competition.
No sooner had the ball hit the back of Porto’s net did Shearer and Lineker take to Twitter in appraisal of Mount’s fine finish.
Both former England strikers appreciated Mount’s execution and his overall undeniable talent.
Thomas Tuchel will constantly be reminded that he dropped the 22-year-old for his first game in charge of Chelsea.
He’s rarely made the same mistake again.
That was Mount’s fifth goal since the German coach arrived, a sign of how he’s contributions in the final third are improving.
He even admitted in a post-match interview with BT Sport that it was something he’d been working on in training.
All the hard work has certainly paid off as he edges closer to being Chelsea’s top scorer this season.
Not since Frank Lampard in 2011/12 has a midfielder claimed that title.
It would be befitting for Mount to take over this mantel from the manager that gave him his Blues breakthrough.
