Callum Hudson-Odoi believes that Chelsea teammate Olivier Giroud is underrated.
Giroud is an experienced centre-forward that started his Premier League career at Arsenal, before joining the Blues for £18million (BBC) in January 2018.
The 32-year-old is someone that has already achieved plenty in his career and is still a valuable option at Stamford Bridge.
He played in every game last summer during France’s World Cup triumph, while last season he was the Europa League top scorer (11) when Chelsea won the competition.
The target man is one of the more senior members of Frank Lampard’s squad this campaign and he’s a great mentor for the wave of youngsters breaking into the first-team.
Tammy Abraham has started the season on fire and is currently the first-choice striker option, but behind him he has healthy competition from Giroud and Michy Batshuayi.
With 21-year-old Abraham still learning at the top-flight, it must be brilliant to have someone proven like Giroud in the squad with him to feed off.
Blues attacker Hudson-Odoi feels that his teammate perhaps doesn’t get the credit he deserves.
“I think he is a bit underrated for what he does. He does score a lot of goals, he does create a lot of goals. He’s a great striker,” Hudson-Odoi told Soccer AM.
Giroud’s goalscoring record certainly speaks for itself and he is definitely underrated for what he can do in the final third.
He’s never been blessed with great pace, but he holds the ball up so well and is deadly in the penalty area.
The striker has 19 goals in 68 games for Chelsea, while for London rivals Arsenal he netted 105 times in 253 appearances and he’s also got a World Cup medal on his CV.
Lampard is certainly going to need to rely on his experienced throughout the campaign and his time will come, as so far he’s only played five games across all competitions and had to watch Abraham take the spotlight.
