'Can handle the pressure': Demba Ba says he would love Chelsea to sign £34m defender

Demba Ba claims he would love Chelsea to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

Koulibaly, 30, has been regarded as one of the top centre-backs across European football for several years now.

He’s an ever-present and vital player for Italian club Napoli, making over 300 appearances for them in his career. Also, he’s a Senegal international that won the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.

It’s been reported by Spanish publication AS that Barcelona are interested in signing the Serie A star this summer, but he’ll cost around €40million (£34million).

With his Napoli deal due to expire in 2023, it’s going to be interesting to see what his future will look like.

Ex-Chelsea player Ba thinks he’d be a great fit at Stamford Bridge.

“100 per cent. 1000 per cent,” Ba responded when asked if he’d want Chelsea to sign Koulibaly.

“He has that stature. He can support pressure, bear in mind he plays for Senegal and plays for Napoli. He can handle the pressure. He’s good as a football player and a top lad.”

Chelsea CB shake up

It’s going to require some sort of defensive shake up next season from Blues manager Thomas Tuchel at the back.

For certain, Koulibaly’s the type of high-profile player that would excite the Chelsea fanbase if linked.

It may require a signing with top European pedigree to replace Antonio Rudiger next season, who will be leaving Chelsea in the summer.

It’s been reported Chelsea are interested in RB Leipzig’s 20-year-old defender Josko Gvardiol. Tuchel will need to strike the right balance between youth and experience if he can, though.
