Estevao Willian has taken a pause to his positive start at Chelsea to play for Brazil during the international break.
It’s been an exciting beginning for Estevao Willian, 18, since he officially joined Chelsea in the summer from Palmeiras. Even in his first few games for the Blues, fans are already seeing why there’s been so much hype around the teenage talent.
The left-footed attacker, who usually plays on the right, hasn’t looked out of place in Enzo Maresca’s side so far.

On Friday, Estevao scored his first Brazil goal in a 3-0 victory against Chile in a World Cup qualifier. Next, the South American giants travel to Bolivia next Wednesday for another qualifying match.

Carlo Ancelotti hails Estevao Willian’s start at Chelsea
Carlo Ancelotti, the Brazil manager, was full of praise for Estevao after he scored his first international goal in the victory against Chile. In addition, he made the observation that the teenager has started very impressively this season since his move to Chelsea to play in the Premier League for the first time.
Ancelotti said via Globo: “I worked with Estevao first at Palmeiras, and now he’s working with Chelsea. He’s made a great start to the Premier League, which isn’t easy. He did very well in today’s game, playing his first game and working well with the team. He has the potential to improve his game and help the team even more.”
We agree that it’s been quite remarkable to see Estevao shine in the Premier League so fast.
Last month, Blues defender Marc Cucurella described Estevao as “very mature” on the pitch, which is something that’s quite obvious about his game. It’s clear to see he developed a lot from 83 senior appearances for Brazilian giants Palmeiras.

How new Chelsea signing could impact Estevao Willian
While the individual talent of Estevao is clear, it doesn’t yet necessarily guarantee him a spot in Chelsea’s XI every single game.
In the first weeks of the season, Estevao has competed with Pedro Neto and Jamie Gittens for the two positions on each wing. However, the arrival of new signing Alejandro Garnacho could now impact things after the international break.
We would expect to see Blues manager Maresca rotate quite a bit in wide areas because he’s suddenly blessed with a few really exciting options.
Garnacho and Gittens prefer to play on the left wing, while Neto and Estevao operate from the right. We’ve seen that you need to show versatility to play regularly in Maresca’s team, so don’t be surprised to see Estevao get minutes more centrally as a No.10.
