Carney Chukwuemeka has praised Chelsea teammate Lewis Hall’s strong Premier League debut in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United.

It was an overall poor performance from Chelsea, who could not cope with Newcastle’s high pressing at St James’ Park at the weekend.

Hall’s performance, however, was arguably one of the few positives from the match.

While ESPN FC pundit Craig Burley believes Hall’s playing ahead of Marc Cucurella was a “worrying sign” for the latter, the teenager actually deserved to keep his spot after a convincing performance against Manchester City in midweek.

“Special day yesterday making my Premier League debut,” the versatile 18-year-old wrote on Instagram after the game.

“Not the result or performance we wanted, but we will stick together to put things right after the break.”

There were a number of responses from fellow Chelsea youngsters in the comment section, including from Chukwuemeka who was clearly impressed by Hall’s display.

“What a player,” the former Aston Villa player wrote in response to Hall’s Instagram post.

Chukwuemeka made his Chelsea and Premier League debut a month earlier than Hall, in October.

The midfielder has made three appearances as a substitute under Graham Potter but is currently out of action due to a hamstring injury.
