Tony Cascarino thinks that Chelsea’s Kai Havertz was “bullied” at times last season, but is tipping him for huge success this year.

Havertz, 22, didn’t set the world alight for stages of his debut campaign in English football. However, the German attacker turned up for the Blues on the biggest stage of them all.

The left-footed forward ended up with nine goals and nine assists across all competitions last season. His final goal to win the Champions League final against Manchester City is one that’s now cemented into club folklore.

His £71million price tag means there is so much expected of him and that’s why question marks were raised when his start wasn’t the quickest. But, signs under manager Thomas Tuchel are all heading in one direction.

Havertz, along with numerous Chelsea teammates, impressed at Euro 2020 in the summer for his country.

His 2021/22 club season started with an impressive display in the UEFA Super Cup final victory in midweek and he’s growing in stature.

Cascarino picked the 22-year-old when asked which Chelsea player it’s a big season for:

Kai Havertz. He was bullied at times last season but was arguably one of Germany’s best players at the Euros,” Cascarino told The Times.

Havertz can be a Chelsea talisman

It may have taken him a little while adapting to the English game, but Havertz is ready to be a superstar at Stamford Bridge.

He wasn’t playing with the biggest confidence during games last season, so perhaps opponents were bullying him.

However, he doesn’t need to be the strongest to set the league alight.

His speed, trickery and movement is from the very top drawer.
