Ever since Chelsea confirmed the sacking of Liam Rosenior earlier this week, the Blues have been linked with bringing Cesc Fabregas back to Stamford Bridge – this time, as a manager.

Having only ever worked as an interim manager at Como before the summer of 2024, Fabregas was appointed Como manager following the club’s promotion to Serie A. He has sparkled as a manager.

A tenth-placed finish in Como’s first season in the top flight, followed by a stunning effort this season that should see Como qualify for Europe. Fabregas, a minority owner, has played a huge part in their success.

But with Chelsea now hiring, Fabregas is being linked with a return to Stamford Bridge after five years at the club as a player. Rio Ferdinand said Fabregas would be his pick, but reports say he wants to stay put.

Cesc Fabregas responds when asked about the Chelsea job

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s clash against Genoa, Fabregas was asked about the Chelsea job. It comes after Como’s owner Mirwan Suwarso said Fabregas is free to join Chelsea as manager, if he pleases.

“If that makes him happy, that’s him. You want your employees to stay with you for as long as possible but at the end of the day we don’t own him and he’s free to go to Chelsea if he wishes,” Suwarso said.

Well, Fabregas has now broken his silence on a potential move to Chelsea. The Spaniard said it would be “crazy” to focus on anything other than Como’s five remaining games, and insists he is happy to stay.

“Nothing to say about that. It’d be stupid to think about that now, my focus is on the next game against Genoa. I believe I will continue my chapter as Como head coach and focus on the next games.

“I would be crazy to think of anything else rather than these next five games and getting my team into Europe for the first time in history. I have not seen or heard any comments that my president said.”

John Terry and Eden Hazard dream of Fabregas at Chelsea

Fabregas is certainly a contender and while he may intend on remaining at Como, the lure of a return to Chelsea where he is incredibly well-liked may tempt him. Chelsea fans would love to see Fabregas join.

Who do YOU want to see replace Liam Rosenior now he is sacked?

John Terry recently said, while with the Icons Series, that he could see Fabregas joining Chelsea or even Arsenal at some point. Meanwhile, Eden Hazard himself has spoken to Fabregas about taking over.

Hazard says he dreams of Fabregas managing Chelsea, and watching on from the stands with his former teammate in the dugout. Whether Chelsea, given their current state, can tempt him is another question.
