Reports from Spain have claimed that one side currently competing in the Champions League are not currently prepared to pay Chelsea’s asking price for one player at the end of the season.
According to AS, Real Madrid are currently not willing to pay the Blues’ asking price for Kepa Arrizabalaga, who has fallen out of favour as the starting goalkeeper there this season.
Kepa made the move to Madrid on loan this season with the opportunity clear to be a starting figure at the Bernabeu after Thibaut Courtois picked up a serious injury at the start of the campaign.#
It seems as if the 29-year-old did not fancy the battle for the shirt at Stamford Bridge with compatriot Robert Sanchez, who joined the club from Brighton.
Instead, he made the move to Spain, where he was originally the starting goalkeeper for the side in both La Liga and the Champions League.
This may well be a bigger blessing in disguise than some Chelsea fans realise. If he hadn’t left, the club will likely not have made a move for Djordje Petrovic, who was seen at the time as a backup.
Madrid don’t want to match Kepa asking price
Now though, the 24-year-old is the first choice at Stamford Bridge, with it seeming that he has secured his place to be in the side who face Liverpool in the EFL Cup final at Wembley on Sunday.
Selling Kepa though appears like it is going to become a lot more difficult this summer than perhaps the club would have been expecting, with Madrid not willing to pay the fee Chelsea are hoping for.
This is despite the fact that the player himself has come out and said multiple times that he is hopeful that his career continues in the Spanish capital, with things seemingly coming to a sour end for him at Stamford Bridge.
