There’s some serious competition for places at Chelsea this season, which makes life extremely difficult for Enzo Maresca as the head coach to keep everyone happy.
The Chelsea squad does look as healthy as it’s been for several years. So far, Enzo Maresca deserves big credit for rotating heavily between Premier League and cup matches to keep most players involved.
John Obi Mikel argues that Chelsea still lacking some leadership in the squad. However, this is a very young group assembled by the Blues and they’re learning on the job in that regard.

Chelsea think Benoit Badiashile has bright future at Stamford Bridge
According to GiveMeSport, Chelsea star Benoit Badiashile is not for sale despite speculation that he could leave in January.
It is explained that the Blues view the 23-year-old centre-back as part of their long-term project. They think he’s got a bright future in west London, too.
The report says that Chelsea are delighted by the Frenchman’s work rate and competition he’s providing in the squad. Apparently, the left-footed defender is content fighting for his position as well.
GiveMeSport adds that Chelsea paid £35m to sign Badiashile from Monaco nearly two years ago, which was seen as value for money at the time. There’s a belief that the deal has been proven smart business and he’s retained his market value.
Badiashile has started to turn things around with some impressive performances, but he currently finds himself out of the preferred starting line-up. As it stands, he’s cover on the bench for the centre-back partnership of Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill.
Benoit Badiashile has zero Premier League starts this season
Badiashile is one of the high-profile Chelsea first teamers struggling for minutes in the Premier League, but he’s still getting minutes in various cup competitions.
Here is a look at the defender’s game time so far this season:
| Competition | Appearances | Starts |
| Conference League | 2 | 2 |
| Conference League qualifiers | 2 | 2 |
| Carabao Cup | 2 | 2 |
| Premier League | 1 | 0 |
Badiashile is a ball-playing centre-back with a lot of quality in possession and great physical attributes, but there’s always a fear that he does have a mistake in him. For now, it’s hard to see him breaking into Chelsea’s best XI.
Badiashile was intent on staying at Chelsea despite summer transfer interest. These fresh reports suggest his future will be with the Blues, too. If he’s happy as a squad player, there’s definitely room for him.
