Chelsea are big fans of ‘outstanding’ Premier League player who Frank Lampard really rates

Chelsea will no doubt be keen to add to their ranks when the right opportunity pops up in future transfer windows.

The Blues spent big again over the summer in order to give the right backing to new manager Enzo Maresca in his first season as a Premier League manager.

He has repaid that faith with what is happening on the pitch right now, and Chelsea chiefs are said to be impressed by Maresca.

The manager has backed a number of players with starts in the Premier League when they are available for selection. This has been the case for both Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill.

However, it has still been claimed that the Blues are not done when it comes to strengthening at the back, and are big fans of Marc Guehi.

Chelsea now interested in bringing back Marc Guehi

The former Blue has come on leaps and bounds at Crystal Palace, and Graeme Bailey has exclusively told The Chelsea Chronicle that he is high up on their list of potential signings.

He said: “Guehi is someone who they like, he’s high up on the list. Palace have got issues, a January deal is not something Guehi is pushing for.

“He’ll have a year left on his deal next summer, and will be a very attractive proposition for one of the top six. He’s one to keep an eye on for sure, we know Chelsea like him, and Chelsea do want to upgrade the options behind Fofana and Colwill.”

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard a fan of Marc Guehi

Guehi made his debut at Chelsea under Frank Lampard, and the club legend was notably a big fan of his when they were both at the club in 2019.

He said to Metro: “I thought Billy Gilmour and Marc Guehi were both really good, Marc was as comfortable as anything.

“I’ve come away from tonight – obviously, we don’t want to lose and we know where this is in the competition – but at the same time, there’s lots of positives.

“In the bigger picture, Marc Guehi’s performance showed that he’s more than comfortable at this level and Billy the same, he was bright.”

The Palace man made the real step up to the top level during last summer’s European Championship. Guehi’s England teammate Ezri Konsa described him as ‘outstanding’.

Chelsea have been guilty of making the mistake of letting go a number of top players too early in their career, although if the opportunity arises they should leap at the chance to sign Guehi.
