Chelsea are looking to sign a player who would instantly become the second-fastest in the squad

A lack of outright pace was a concern for Chelsea last season, and something they are already keen to address in the 2026 summer transfer market.

Being caught out on the counter attack was a major concern for the Blues under both Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior, and needs to be addressed for when Xabi Alonso arrives at Stamford Bridge.

Too many times, the likes of Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo were left in uncomfortable 1v1 positions after their opponents had managed to break up the pitch quickly.

Chelsea target Maxence Lacroix would instantly become their second-fastest player

Effort is already being made to sign reinforcements at the back. After a deal was agreed for Marco Palestra, they have turned their attention to Crystal Palace’s Maxence Lacroix.

The France international has found himself more protected playing in Oliver Glasner’s back three, however still can boast one of the quickest top-speeds in the league.

According to the Premier League’s official stats, Lacroix hit 35.39 km/h during the clash against Newcastle back in January, topped by only a handful of players in the country.

The current fastest player in the Chelsea squad is Pedro Neto. According to the Premier League, he clocked a high speed of 36.32 km/h against Brighton back in September.

Many believe the Portugal international can utilise this raw speed more, especially if he is transformed into a wing-back under Alonso.

Lacroix wants Chelsea move

After initial reports of Chelsea planning a bid for Lacroix, it quickly became clear that this is interest he will welcome from the Blues this summer.

This is despite his current side qualifying for the Europa League next season after winning the Conference League final.

Lacroix seemed to say goodbye to Palace fans after their last home game of the season, potentially giving them time to accept he is ready to take on a new challenge.

His experience playing in the Premier League, and in a back three which Xabi Alonso is a big fan of, suggests he could instantly become a key player at Stamford Bridge next season.
