Journalist Miguel Delaney has now claimed that Chelsea are actively trying to convince Ian Maatsen to leave the club today.
He took to Twitter to claim that the player being a product of the academy helps them with FFP in the long term.
Maatsen is one of the few Chelsea players with an uncertain future at this stage. There are just a few hours of the window to go.
Burnley, who had the 21-year-old on loan last season, have reportedly had a bid accepted for his services.
However, the player at this stage is not keen on making the move to Turf Moor.
Chelsea trying to convince Maatsen to leave
Delaney has now claimed that the club are actively looking to convince the player to make the move to the fellow Premier League side.
He said: “Chelsea currently trying to convince Maatsen to go to Burnley. Academy so helps with FFP.
“Another illustration of this, which has been theme of PL summer.”
The club would be foolish to allow the young defender to leave this summer, especially after agreeing a deal to sell Lewis Hall to Newcastle.
Supporters will have been so much happier if a deal to allow Cucurella to leave would have been accepted instead.
