All the talk around Chelsea at the moment is surrounding the striker position, and the lack of options they have to start there at the moment.

After not signing a new forward in January, the Blues put plenty of faith in Nicolas Jackson to turn around his poor form in front of goal and fire them to Champions League qualification.

However, the Senegal international is set for the best part of two months on the sideline after his injury diagnosis came back way worse than expected.

With Marc Guiu also out for the next few weeks at least, Enzo Maresca may well be regretting the fact his side haven’t added to their options in the last two transfer windows.

Chelsea transfer target Samu Aghehowa yet to score in 2025

One of the names who has been strongly linked with the club of late is Samu Aghehowa. The striker was close to a move to Chelsea before they eventually signed Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid instead.

Interest remains in the young Spaniard even though he just made the move to Porto. The Blues have had scouts in attendance to watch Samu in recent weeks.

However, watching performances in 2025 will have seen a common theme with his recent displays. The striker hasn’t found the net in this calendar year in all competitions.

Chelsea fans were firmly against the addition of Samu in the summer, however he set about proving them wrong quickly in both domestic and Europa League action.

In a similar way to how Jackson has gone off the boil, the Spaniard has suffered from a similar loss of form.

Samu compared to Chelsea legend Diego Costa

With some Chelsea fans still getting up to date on who Samu is, the best description has been given by Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone.

According to Football Espana, the La Liga winner compared the youngster to Diego Costa, who has developed legendary status at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea fans have been crying out for a number nine in the ilk of Costa to bully them back into games, and while Jackson does a lot of good work it is safe to say he doesn’t have the cutting edge their former centre forward possessed.
