Kai Havertz has explained that he is “very excited” to reunite with international teammate Timo Werner at club level.

German duo Havertz and Werner are two of the new Chelsea signings this summer, with both starting the 3-1 win over Brighton in their opening Premier League fixture.

Havertz, 21, has joined the Blues as an exciting attacking midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen and is a versatile player that can slot into several positions within Frank Lampard’s XI.

The left-footer operated from the right flank against Brighton and is an extremely technical youngster with an eye for goal.

Meanwhile, 24-year-old teammate Werner was signed to become the first-choice striker at Chelsea and he looked the part against Brighton despite failing to get on the scoresheet.

He scored 34 goals across all competitions last season for Leipzig and is a forward that thrives off playing on the last shoulder.

Havertz has spoken about the potential partnership he could form with Werner.

“I’m very happy that Timo is here, I met him first in the national team in Germany and now we are friends so I think we will have a good German connection in the team now,” he said, as quoted by the club’s official website.

“We haven’t played so many games together, just one or two in the national team and now one game for Chelsea, but I’m very excited to play more with him.”

Chelsea have done so well to sign Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Hakim Ziyech this summer, but you could argue that more pressure will be on Werner and Havertz to hit the ground running following their switches from the Bundesliga.

They are two extremely talented attackers that on paper should thrive off each other and it’s one that supporters should be excited to see develop.
