Tim Sherwood says Olivier Giroud is still the best centre forward at Chelsea ahead of Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner.
With his goal against Aston Villa on Monday, the 34-year-old has now had seven goals from his last five starts for Chelsea in all competitions.
Frank Lampard’s tendency to rotate his front three, however, means Giroud’s form doesn’t really guarantee him a starting spot for the next game.
Lampard certainly wouldn’t mind having Abraham who has been Chelsea’s top scorer in the Premier League or Werner who would offer a different type of attacker as alternative options.
But Sherwood believes Giroud still offers more than the other two as a No.9.

“I can’t speak highly enough of this boy,” Sherwood told Premier League Productions about Giroud.
The former Aston Villa boss was impressed by Giroud’s reaction after being left out of the team at the start of the season with “superstars” like Werner and Kai Havertz arriving at the club.

“[He doesn’t] pick up his phone to his agent saying ‘Get me out of here because they’re not playing me’ — he rolls his sleeves up.
“He says to Frank Lampard, ‘You know what, you could spend all the money you want, I’m still the best centre forward you got’.
“And I believe he’s the best No.9 at that football club. They’re a better team with him in it.”
