Chelsea come to conclusion about Jamie Gittens following disappointing start at Stamford Bridge

Jamie Gittens has got off to a really slow start at Chelsea following his arrival from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

Gittens is yet to score a goal or provide an assist and has only made two starts in the Premier League so far.

Alejandro Garnacho is above him in the pecking order right now, with Enzo Maresca naming the Argentina international in his first XI for Tuesday night’s Champions League win against Benfica.

Even so, Maresca still thinks Gittens is going to help Chelsea as the season goes on.

Chelsea confident Jamie Gittens will come good

Despite his struggles, Chelsea, as a whole, seem to be backing Gittens, which should give the 21-year-old some confidence.

According to the Daily Mail, the Blues have full faith that Gittens will turn things around and come good.

It is still early days, so perhaps some of the criticism that the winger has received has been over the top.

What has not helped is the impact of Noni Madueke at Arsenal. They both play in similar positions, with Chelsea selling the England international to their London rivals over the summer.

Before his injury, Madueke was gaining recognition, being named in WhoScored’s Premier League Team of the Week for gameweek 4.

Enzo Maresca makes claim about Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho

While Garnacho played a key role in Chelsea’s winning goal against Benfica, not everyone is convinced about the ex-Manchester United star either.

Former Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given thinks Madueke is better than Garnacho, for example.

Whatever the case, Maresca is still backing both Garnacho and Gittens and is confident they will improve with time.

“Both are going to be better and better game after game,” the Chelsea manager was quoted as saying by Chelsea’s official club website.

The Blues’ next match is against Liverpool on Saturday, and you would expect Gittens to remain on the bench for it. However, Garnacho could start following his impact in the Benfica win. If he does, hopefully he plays a role in another goal.
