Chelsea have confirmed that they will be without one top player for the first leg of the EFL semi-finals tomorrow.

The club’s official injury update on their website stated that Christopher Nkunku was undergoing medical assessment, after missing the last game at the weekend with an issue.

It was beginning to look a bit brighter for the Blues as far as injuries were concerned when Nkunku returned to action and instantly gave the side a lift in attack.

While his minutes were being managed, it looked as if Mauricio Pochettino was actually managing the delicate situation quite well.

However, there was cause for concern when the manager admitted he would not be fit to start the weekend in the FA Cup vs Preston.

Subsequently, he was not even named as a substitute, bringing real concern over whether things weren’t as bad as the manager was trying not to make them sound.

Nkunku injury

The club’s latest update will give supporters no further excitement that he is actually not injured, with him being currently assessed by the medical team.

In experience of these club injury updates, this means that the Frenchman will not be available for selection tomorrow.

The news will only bring more frustration for the £52m summer signing that he has not been able to have the desired impact on the club since joining.

The Blues are approaching a two-legged semi-final against Middlesbrough in the EFL Cup, with a place at Wembley against either Liverpool or Fulham at stake.

It is fair to say that this comfortably brings the best chance of a first trophy in the eras of both Todd Boehly and Mauricio Pochettino.
