Chelsea could offer £50m player new contract before end of season

Chelsea could offer one of their players a new contract before the end of the season.

The Blues are at risk of losing Conor Gallagher for nothing, with his existing deal set to expire in 2025.

However, Telegraph journalist Matt Law has told the London Is Blue podcast that he thinks Chelsea will offer the midfielder a fresh contract before the summer.

As of now, though, Law says no progress has been made over an extension.

Gallagher has become an important member of this Chelsea squad under Mauricio Pochettino. He scored two goals in the Blues’ last outing against Crystal Palace, where he spent the 2021/22 season on loan.

Law reckons Chelsea will eventually offer Gallagher a fresh deal.

On his current situation at Stamford Bridge, the journalist said: “There have been some talks around his contract but nothing very detailed I’m told and certainly no significant progress.

“No concrete offer has been made to him yet because I don’t think Chelsea want to get into a situation whereby they just make offer after offer and try to come to an agreement like that. But I do think an offer will be made before the end of the season, but it feels like they’re a long way off being in a situation where you’d be confident of an agreement.”

Would Conor Gallagher sign a new Chelsea contract?

It is hard to imagine him not. The 24-year-old has come through the club’s academy and has got to captain the Blues this season.

He has stayed and fought for his place despite the arrivals of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. This is someone who clearly wants to be at Stamford Bridge.

But it is not always that simple, while Chelsea have always been prepared to sell the England international.

Last summer, for example, they slapped a £50m price tag on Gallagher, according to talkSPORT. A lot has happened since then, though, with the Chelsea academy graduate going on to become a key player for Pochettino. Maybe he has now done enough to earn an acceptable contract and if it is acceptable, assuming one does arrive, you would expect him to sign it considering all of the above.
