Chelsea return to Conference League action on Thursday with a trip to Copenhagen, but will Cole Palmer be named in the starting line-up?
Chelsea breezed through the groups stages of the Conference League during the first half of the season with six wins out of six. Now, the Blues kickstart the knockout stages with a two-legged last-16 tie against Copenhagen.
Enzo Maresca’s side play on Thursday evening in the first leg away to Copenhagen before the second leg at Stamford Bridge a week later. The Chelsea manager definitely has some big decisions to make with his team selection. Even though the Italian head coach has heavily rotated in this tournament so far, it’s the only opportunity they have left to win silverware this year.
Cole Palmer, 22, wasn’t registered to play in the Conference League group stages as he was given the time to rest, but he’s now available for selection after being added to the updated squad.
Palmer isn’t included in the Chelsea predicted XI versus Copenhagen in midweek. The Blues fanbase have delivered their verdict on whether the Englishman talisman should be involved from the start, though.

Chelsea fans desperate for Cole Palmer to start vs Copenhagen
Many Chelsea supporters on social media agree that Palmer should be named in the starting line-up for Thursday’s European tie away to Copenhagen. In fact, some have made the point it could be the ‘perfect’ fixture for him to regain some form.
Here are Blues fans on X urging Maresca to start the attacking midfielder…
One fan wrote: “I think Palmer should start against Copenhagen on Thursday to get back his groove.”
“I actually need Palmer to start on Thursday so he can score and regain his form back,” another posted.
One supporter claimed: “Don’t look down on Copenhagen at home…send a strong lineup… Palmer over Nkunku.”
“Perfect game for Palmer to get his mojo back,” another shared.
One fan said: “Playing Palmer could be a shout for him to regain some much needed confidence.”
Palmer is currently on his worse run in front of goal since he joined Chelsea, failing to score or assist in his previous seven appearances across all competitions. Therefore, you can understand the logic behind wanting to unleash him on Copenhagen in midweek.
Graeme Souness has defended Palmer by insisting that the Chelsea star is still doing the right things and will start scoring again soon.
Similarly, Frank Leboeuf predicts Palmer will soon regain form and start to do what he does best in front of goal.

Don’t underestimate Conference League clubs
Of course, Chelsea are the most high-profile club still left in Europe’s third tier competition. However, we doubt it’ll be a walk in the park if they want to go on and win the trophy.
| Club | Country | Current league position |
| Copenhagen | Denmark | 1st |
| Chelsea | England | 5th |
| Molde | Norway | N/A |
| Legia Warszawa | Poland | 4th |
| Panathinaikos | Greece | 3rd |
| Fiorentina | Italy | 7th |
| Real Betis | Spain | 6th |
| Vitoria Guimaraes | Portugal | 7th |
| Borac Banja Luka | Bosnia and Herzegovina | 2nd |
| Rapid Vienna | Austria | 5th |
| Celje | Slovenia | 5th |
| Lugano | Switzerland | 4th |
| Jagiellonia Bialystok | Poland | 3rd |
| Cercle Brugge | Belgium | 12th |
| Pafos | Cyprus | 1st |
| Djurgarden | Sweden | N/A |
As you can see above, most teams still competing in this season’s Conference League are doing well in their respective domestic leagues.
Chelsea are fighting for a piece of history to become the first club to win ever European trophy, but they’ll come unstuck if they take their opponents lightly. On paper, the Copenhagen tie may have been one of the toughest draws.
